Adriane Carr, born in Vancouver to immigrant parents, earned an MA in urban geography from UBC, taught for 12 years at Langara College, and worked for two decades to grow the Wilderness Committee into one of Canada’s most effective conservation groups. She co-founded the committee’s international WILD campaign to protect key wilderness areas, and was a lead coordinator in the campaign to resolve the conflict over clearcut logging in Clayoquot Sound.

Carr is a well-known leader in Green politics. In 1983 she co-founded the Green Party of BC and served as party leader 1983 to 1985 and 2000 to 2006. She then served as Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada from 2006 to 2011.

In 2011, Carr was elected as Vancouver’s first Green Party city councillor, drawn by wanting to find local solutions to the escalating housing unaffordability and climate crises.  She was re-elected to Council in 2014 and 2018 with more votes than any Councillor in Vancouver’s history. She is now serving her fourth term on Vancouver City Council.

Carr is celebrating 40 years of marriage to Paul George, founder of the Wilderness Committee. They have two children and 3 young grandchildren.
